Personal trainers and diet advice
When I first did my training many moons ago I also did 2 nutrition courses.
I would always tell my clients I am
Not a nutritionist BUT ,….
And it was more expectable to give advice and do up meal plans ( I am sure some still do ) BUT NOW after years of training people and myself .. I am not a nutritionist or dietician I have some knowledge BUT …
Always a BUT
This is what I’ve learnt over the years:
6/12 week challenges work for everyone IF you stick with it 90/100%
6/12 week challenges work Beyond that ONLY, if you learn about your food intake and what works for you to keep that weight off , if you go back to your old habits you will regain the weight
That restrictive diets don’t work.. even body builders have diet breaks and off seasons
Unless you have a medical reason to give up a food group, why are you doing it ?
If your answers has anything to do with ‘you saw a tic toc that said … OR a post on Insta was about if I don’t eat …… I’ll lose weight ‘ .. stop ..do your research with credible sources, not fitness influences
Restrictive diets can lead to binge eating / eating disorders
Over the years I have seek professional advice on my own food intake regarding my goals..
If it’s out of my scope of knowledge I’ll ask for help.
When I was endurance running I saw a sports dietitian
When I did bodybuilding I hired a bodybuilding coach
When I wanted to lost some body fat / or help with controlling my eating I contacted a nutritionist/ dietitian
Gone are the days or 1200/1500 calorie diets
Gone are the days of one diet plan fits everyone
Gone are they days of lots of cardio for fat lose
Gone are the days that I need to exercise more to make up for the food I ate
Gone are the days of I burnt this many calories today so I can now eat this much food
Gone are the days of giving up food group, for no reason other then you think you have too or think you will lose weigh if you do
Gone are the days of restrictive diets
( I could go on )
Like exercising.. food is the same .. we need to stop the all or nothing thinking
Stop labelling good & bad foods
We need to enjoy foods
Seek help if you need it
